Artist Statement:
I have always been visually drawn to woodblock and lino cut prints, especially the black and white work that is sometimes found as chapter illustrations in books. The print works of Canadian artists
Thoreau MacDonald, Arnold Shives and Herbert Siebner were early favourites.
Eight years ago I picked up a gouge and carved my first piece of lino and immediately became hooked on the physical aspect of the tool use and the simplicity of the materials.
In my work I draw primarily from visual clues and patterns of my every day natural and built surroundings. I am fortunate to share the fabulous Cecelia Press Studio in Victoria with two talented artists and have access to a large press and a fully equipped printmaking studio. Much of my practice is very low tech and portable, however, allowing me to create small work in remote locations or when travelling.
