Artist Statement/Bio:
My name is ANYUTA and I am a classically trained sculptor and painter with an MFA in Decorative and Monumental Sculpture from the Moscow Stroganov Art Academy. I grew up in the port city of Vladivostok located on the Far East Pacific coast of the former Soviet Union, near Japan and China. I believe that the proximity of Asian cultures brought certain Asian influences into my artwork. I was raised in a strict family and culture which did not encourage the expression of personal emotions or opinions. I started making art at a very young age as a way to escape emotional pain and to comfort myself. I felt that the only time when I was accepted for who I was when I was creating art. Today, my mission is to inspire more love, warmth, softness, and acceptance by creating pieces that are friendly, joyful, playful, and whimsical.
