Original works on paper in Print-Media and Water Based Media
Studio 218 1000 Parker St, Vancouver
I share a special fondness for lesser-celebrated plants found in their natural habitats and this prompts me to often work in close relationship with ecosystem-specific botanists. Through their generous knowledge sharing I learn about disappearing habitats, develop increased botanical literacy and also find great inspiration to document the beauty and poetry that I observe in even in the humblest of flora. The calligraphic curve of a stem, the muted murmurs of their colours, the fragility and the strength they portray, and also the calm they are able to instil in their viewers keeps me engaged. I would say that my botanical works are love-letters to Nature.
Having been trained as a paper-maker, print-maker and installation artist during my studies at Concordia, 1979-1983, my practice has mostly focused on works that include various forms of papers and botanical materials. More recently, I have also added seasonal foraging of plants from habitats I walk through and live in for the purpose of creating plant-based dyes.
