I graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1990 with a Diploma in Fine Arts. I completed a Post-Baccalaureate in Painting at the Cyprus College of Art in Paphos, Cyprus in 1994. I was an Artist-in-Residence at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, USA in 2000 and at the Fundación Valparaíso in Mojácar, Spain in 2002.
My latest series is called, “On the Edge of Where I Live” which describes a section of land adjacent to where I live in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver that is slated for development. It is a pristine area of old growth forest within a residential area. It is such a dense, overgrown and unique forest, that I want to document and describe this landscape through my art before it is gone.
When developed, this area of land on the edge of where I live will be forever changed and the world it harbored will become a distant memory. By painting this landscape, I am offering the viewer an experience of this space; compressed or distilled versions of my time spent there. I hope to enhance the dialogue about nature and the way we use it; how we respond and value nature before we let it go.
